North Shore Icon Karen Raffa Left Her 'Mark On Every Life' She Touched

Karen Raffa was all about family. The Beverly resident was considered a true "connector" who went out of her way to make every member of her family – immediate or extended – feel special.

"Some souls leave a mark on every life they touch. Karen was one of those souls," her obituary reads. "'K', as she was known, was the background, the foundation, and the catalyst for everything she touched."

Raffa tragically lost her life after she was hit by a car at North Shore Physicians Group in Salem on Friday, Dec. 9, as previously reported by Daily Voice. The driver involved was an 87-year-old Peabody woman who was taken to Salem Hospital for evaluation, Salem Police report.

Raffa's family is now thinking about proposing a bill that would require people 75 and older to be retested for their drivers license, Raffa's cousin Pam Kelly-Dobay told Daily Voice. In a way, this is her family's means of giving back to the community that Raffa served during her 69 years of life.

"Having lost her son to an overdose five years ago, she and her husband created the Frankie's Voice event which raised money for scholarships to The North Shore Recovery High School," Kelly-Dobay said. "She was also very involved with the marching arts activity and supported several organizations in the area."

Aside from being an active member of her local community, Raffa was an "anchor" of her husband Frank's construction company. After a long career in accounting, Raffa retired only six months ago after working the past 20 years at North Shore Bank, her obituary continues.

In addition to her husband Frank, to whom she was married for 47 years, Raffa is survived by her daughter Kellyann, granddaughter Rory, grandsons Dominic and Reese as well as her siblings, nieces, nephews, godchildren and more.

Her family has invited friends and loved ones to gather for visiting hours at Campbell Funeral Home at 525 Cabot Street in Beverly on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral will be held in St. Margaret’s Church in Beverly, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
